What is it??

Ok, so the final coat of white paint has gone onto the hallway walls and the orange has finally gone!!  Woodwork next!  In the meantime I have turned my attention to the front door.  I want to paint it......either the inside white and outside a chalky blue or both sides a chalky blue - which do you think??

My next question is.........can anyone recommend a paint that comes in that lovely bluey/grey colour that is for wood.  I have looked at Crown and Dulux but their colours aren't very exciting!

Now for my final question...............what is this called??

I want to change all the door furniture to either silver or black, but just don't know what this is called. It is the knob you use to pull the door shut behind you, but I can't find them anywhere and dont know what to look for on e-bay or the internet.
Can anyone help??!!

  1. Have you looked at Farrow and Ball paints? They do have a lovely range of colours. They are a bit more pricey than the others, but the quality is excellent.I like your ideas for the door.I would have white on the inside and blue for the outside. It's all going to look lovely! :0)

  2. I was going to say Farrow and Ball too :o) They do great colours for painting furniture. I would call it an interior door knob - not sure if there is another type of name for it lol. You're doing so well with the decorating - I need a kick up the bum (or more to the point my husband does) to get things done here. Scarlett x

  3. Try the dulux colour mixing (I did my front door with that) - they have 1000s of colours. The period range is the best. Also a lot cheaper than premixed paint. I would say white on the inside and colour on the outside. I would say dulux will be better being exposed to the elements - most decorators will tell you it is the most hard wearing.

  4. Have you looked at Dulux's website? I have used their "visualisation" tool with great success. Try it here:

  5. I third the Farrow & Ball recommendation! And I believe that's a door knob, just without a latch mechanism inside it. I believe mortice knobs are the ones that turn and just knobs are the static ones you can use to pull a door shut! Although someone may come along and correct me soon ;) x

  6. It's looking great, I would be different and paint the door blue on both sides! lol I love the blue that you are using.

Have you tried browsing Jim Lawrence for the correct names of the door furniture he does all metalware stuff, handles, hinges etc, google him for his website :)

The pink rug you saw on my picutres was from Dunelm but I sewed the trimming on with Cath Kidston fabrics. It was hard though because the rug was thick in places and I broke a few needles on my machine!

  7. Love Farrow and Ball. A woolen mill near me that I visit often(lovely home/gift ware) has painted all their woodwork in a sage green from Farrow and Ball and it is beautiful! Think it's just called a door knob! Think you are right silver would be lovely with pastel colours. sx
